Perla's Success - An Amazing Gift

Many of our supporters may have seen the amazing story in our July 11, 2024 update mailer: "Esperanza Viva Children's Home: Perla's Journey"

It's a wonderfully uplifting story of success. Remember Perla? Here she is with her acceptance letter to the University of Juticalpa after graduating high school at 21. She came to Living Hope at age 14 because her family could no longer care for her. She has made extraordinary progress since joining Esperanza Viva.

A goal for every girl is to transition out of the homes and into a university or a career field. We call it "Proximo Paso" or "Next Steps," because we want every girl to transition well into adulthood. Our directors, Naman and Olga, work diligently with each graduate to determine their best course of study or career field. Perla chose to study education at the university in Juticalpa, but her classes were only on the weekends, so she remained at the home.

After a few weeks, Perla quickly connected with new friends and a new community. She enjoyed her time in classes, but struggled during the week. Like any young woman, Perla is eager for independence and decided to move closer to the university. We were all reluctant to see her go. In fact, it was painful, but our goal is to prepare the girls of Esperanza Viva for this moment of transition!

After a few weeks, Naman and Olga heard from Perla. She is working, attending classes, and has an apartment with friends from the university. The Directors will continue to be available to Perla and monitor her grades so that she remains eligible for the Proximo Paso scholarship.

Please continue to pray for Perla and her journey. We share this information with you, our donor community, because ministry and navigating transitions are difficult. We all want the very best for each of the girls of Esperanza Viva. Perla chose a new path for herself, and we are excited to see her grow in this new phase. And the staff and board of Living Hope will be praying and cheering for her success!
