A Place of Hope, A Home

Nanny’s Casa is the first home Living Hope built. It is home to girls from age 4 – 18 and is named for a real-life “Nanny,” board member, Deanna Beauchamp. The name implies, and the home mirrors, the safety and love most children feel for their “Nanny.”

Nanny’s Casa is accredited by DINAF, the Honduran organization for protecting children and adolescents. The agency contacted LH as soon as the home opened in January 2017 and sent girls who were living in the town dump in Tegucigalpa and another “pimped” by a relative, a familial form of trafficking. One child was born to a mother who was serving a 35-year prison sentence. She came to Nanny’s Casa when she was 2 years old and could no longer live with her mother in the prison. One baby came from the hospital where were she had been admitted with pneumonia but had so many cuts and burns that DINAF would not release her back to her mother.

All the girls have backgrounds from wandering homeless on the streets, living in brothels or with abusive parents. It is a privilege to house them, love them, nourish their bodies and souls, educate them, give them a home filled with opportunity and acceptance. In addition to typical age-appropriate housekeeping duties, the girls have been taught to do their own laundry, and sometimes help with cooking. They have planted their own garden, are paid to care for it and enjoy eating the fruits of their labor. The also LOVE to gather eggs from the laying hens! Chickens and beef are also raised for consumption, helping sustain the girls, another reward for their work. They are amazing, resilient, happy girls!

Five of the girls attend a private school where they receive the finest education available for grades K – 7. The youngest just completed kindergarten. Like any 5-year-old, she is very excited!

Three of the oldest girls are home-schooled since they have never attended school and are not able to compete with their peers. The oldest graduated from High School with honors in 2019 and is attending the university in Juticalpa.

Living Hope is committed to keeping “our” girls as long as is needed as if they were our own children. The house parents are insightful and are capitalizing on each girl’s interests as they develop with a view toward preparing them to make a living wage for themselves.

Siempre en nuestros corazones

Always in Our Hearts

Dr. Paul Major was one of the founding board members of Living Hope. A man of great passion, he loved the land and the farm. Paul was a leading proponent of the girls’ home, but unfortunately passed away before its completion.

A memorial plaque honoring Dr. Major lies on a hill overlooking Nanny’s Casa. His selfless devotion will always be an elemental part of the home and it's mission.

Much More To Come

Casa de Lynn has been under construction for a while and is now opening! It is exciting to look forward to providing a second home for more girls. The exterior of Lynn’s House was completed over 2021. The interior was delayed because the volunteer groups who offered to complete the remaining construction were been unable to travel due the pandemic. Things are now in good order after much hard work and the home is opening.

The new home is a duplex that will be home to 24 more girls, parented by a loving couple. The home is underwritten by a donor in honor of her deceased daughter.
